Indian icon Bembem Devi sure Dennerby, Dede will deliver

 

India women football icon Oinam Bembem Devi is optimistic former Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby will deliver when  the  country hosts the FIFA U-17 World cup next year.

Dennerby’s technical crew which also includes former Nigeria international and tested goalkeeper Precious Dede according to Devi boasts of ample experience that will come handy during the championship.

Devi nicknamed ‘Durga of Indian Football’ (Goddess of Indian football) hailed All India Football Federation AIFF agreeing to host FIFA U-17 Women world cup in India, noting that it will trigger off lot of goodies for the women’s game in the country and beyond.

It will be dream come true for the girls that will be flying India’s flag at the event billed for February 17-March 7 2021.

“I can’t express in words how happy I was when I heard we would be hosting this tournament, and I need to praise the AIFF for bringing it to India. It shows how serious they are about developing women’s football, “Said the former national team captain.

The girls who will be flying India’s flag she said are in safe hands and will be proud to rise to the occasion adding that she would not hesitate to give a helping hand if called upon to do so.

“They are an ambitious bunch of girls who are willing to work like anything,” she said. “Commitment-wise, they are ready to make inroads. They are also training under Thomas Dennerby, and I’m sure everyone in the game understands that Mr Dennerby knows a thing or two about women’s football.”

When it comes to experts, it takes one to know one. And if India’s experienced Swedish coach has any questions about women’s football in his adopted country, he knows there is a Durga ready and willing to lend a hand.
