Injury blow for Chukwueze

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze, has suffered a hamstring injury in his left thigh and stands the risk of missing AC Milan’s last two Serie A games of the season.

The former Villarreal man had been in contention to be named in the Nigeria squad for next month’s 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin.

The 24-year-old was handed a second consecutive start against Cagliari on Saturday at the San Siro but had to be taken off at halftime and was replaced by Rafael Leão.

He underwent a test this morning with the result revealing that he had picked up an hamstring injury with the details of the test revealing that he had suffered a first-degree lesion of the biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh.

It has been a disappointing season for the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner, having failed to nail a spot in the starting lineup with Christian Pulisic being preferred over him.

He has started just 15 of the 33 games across all competitions and was only able to garner three goals and three assists, the lowest goal involvements he has recorded in his professional career in a single season.

Recently, the former Villarreal forward had been showing the reason why the Rossoneri signed him last summer but his progress has now been hampered by injury.

His appearance against Cagliari could be his last under Stefano Pioli who is likely to be dismissed following a poor campaign.
