“It’s an honour and a privilege to captain City”

Fernandinho is one of the most important parts of the Manchester City side that have triumphed in the Premier League this season.

The Brazilian said he was “proud and happy” and highlighted that it was “the ultimate fulfillment of our ambitions” to win the title once again.

At 35-years-old he has won the Premier League four times. He has also made 347 appearances for City during his eight years in Manchester, in which he has also won the FA Cup once and the League Cup six times. Fernandinho assured that, due to the high level in English football, winning the title is of extreme importance.

“I am so proud and so happy with what we have achieved,” explained the midfielder, before adding: “The Premier League is the hardest league in world football, every single game is tough. To win it again means the world to me and the rest of the squad. Winning the Premier League title is the ultimate fulfilment of our ambitions. It’s what we all dreamed of as young players, so to do it is a wonderful feeling.”

After the departure of club legend David Silva last summer, Fernandinho was chosen as captain of the side. He has proven to be a player that always puts the team first, both on and off the pitch, and someone who is highly valued by City’s players, both in the first team and the youth team.

The Brazilian highlighted the privilege to wear the armband in a group of players with such desire and ambition: “To captain this team is an honour and a privilege”, he commented.

“The players have given their all throughout the season, whether in training or in matches. The teamwork has been amazing. Football is everything to us and we strive every single day to be as good as we can be in the hope we can bring success to Manchester City”, he underlined.

In an unprecedented season marked by the global pandemic, City have had to fight on all fronts without their fans in the terraces. Fernandinho assured that the entire squad wanted to win the Premier League for the fans. And he promised to do all in his power to defeat Chelsea in the Champions League final at the end of the month.

“We have missed the fans so much. We wanted to do this for them. We will enjoy this moment and we hope the fans do too”, he concluded.
