Iwobi’s Everton step up for EPL duel against Palace

Everton have stepped up preparations for Saturday’s Premier League match at home to Crystal Palace with another intensive training session at USM Finch Farm.

Everton, from being in the relegation zone two months ago, are now talking about the prospect of Europe. Win against Crystal Palace and they will move within one point of fifth!

Palace meanwhile are the Premier League’s lowest scorers and are six games without a win. They have a slight cushion to the bottom three currently but slide any lower and nerves will be increasingly growing.

Everton midfielder Fabian Delph must serve a one-match ban as a consequence of his sending off against Watford last weekend.

Andre Gomes could return later this month after recovering swiftly from a serious ankle injury.

Crystal Palace loanee Cenk Tosun, who missed the last game because of a hamstring problem, is ineligible to face his parent club while Mamadou Sakho and Jeffrey Schlupp are long-term absentees.

The Palace future of Roy Hodgson, out of contract in the summer with an extension yet to be finalised, remains a big talking point. Almost as much as the club’s failure to add recruits in the January transfer window, a shortcoming that has left Hodgson cutting a frustrated figure.

“I think we know, as a football club, that we need to make more inroads into improving our squad and rejuvenating our squad and bringing in some fresh faces, because an awful lot of faces that I still work with every day were here when I came to the club and I have inherited them.”

“There is no panic, only calmness, assessing the situation, taking it in his stride and looking forward to getting back to work the next day.”
