John Terry and Eddie Howe vie for Nottingham Forest’s job

John Terry and Eddie Howe are among the top candidates for the Nottingham Forest job after Chris Hughton was sacked.

Hughton was dismissed on Thursday morning after a disappointing start to the Championship season.

And out of work Terry and Howe are among the runners to replace him according to Sky Bet.

Steve Cooper is the most likely man though priced at 6/4 favourite.

Howe, who has been out of work since leaving Bournemouth, is second at 3/1 ahead of Chris Wilder at 4/1 and then Alex Neil and John Terry both at 12/1.

Terry distanced himself from the job earlier this week after links with the position.

Terry left Villa and is looking for a managerial role but felt compelled to post about not being in line for the Forest job.

He posted: “I just want to distance myself from the Nottingham Forest job, and all the speculation surrounding myself with the job.

“Unfortunately I can’t control the media, but it’s important to know it has nothing to do with me whatsoever.”

However with Hughton now gone he may have a decision to make about returning to the game.

He previously admitted he was keen on taking up a management position after leaving Villa.

He said: “My immediate plan is to spend some quality time with my family and, thereafter, hopefully take up some invitations to visit clubs and managers around Europe to develop my aim and objective of becoming a manager.

“It has always been my ambition to move into football management and, providing the right opportunity presents itself, I feel ready to take up such a challenge.”

Favourite for the role Cooper left Swansea in July and was linked with the role at Crystal Palace this summer.

He previously worked with England and managed the Under 17s to World Cup glory in 2017.

Forest have put Steve Reid in interim charge after losing six and drawing one of their seven games so far.

They sit rock bottom of the Championship and face Huddersfield away on Saturday.
