JUST-IN: Jose Mourinho rejects UK club job offer

Following his shock sacking by Tottenham Hotspur last week, Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho has reportedly rejected a job offer, and the reason for him turning the approach down has seemingly been revealed.

The 58-year-old was relieved of his duties by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy last Monday, less than a week before the Lilywhites’ Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, which they ultimately lost 1-0.

Since then, it has been reported that Mourinho has offers on the table, with Scottish giants Celtic one of the teams believed to be interested in securing the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss’ signature.

However, football journalist Duncan Castles has now claimed the recently fired manager has told the Glasgow club he is not ready to return to the game just yet.

“My information is that the first of those approaches came from Celtic Football Club, who are in need of significant managerial change,” he said on The Transfer Window podcast.

“They are in need of a change of fortune to get themselves back on top of the heap in Scotland after Steven Gerrard guided Rangers to the Scottish title by a significant margin.

“My understanding is that his response to that approach from Celtic – not ready to coach now. There have been other offers.”

Along with Mourinho, Frank Lampard, Eddie Howe and Roy Keane have also been linked with the Celtic role.
