Kalu is a perfect replacement for Moses, says Rohr

Bordeaux forward, Samuel Kalu has been hailed as a ‘perfect replacement’ for Victor Moses, according to Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr.

The 21-year-old has been a breath of fresh air for the three-time African Champions and proved a real menace on his debut against Seychelles and followed it up with a brilliant goal against Libya in Uyo during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Chelsea star, Moses called it quits from the national team after the 2018 FIFA World Cup and there were calls from some quarters to talk him out of retirement. But Rohr looks to be comfortable with the impressive Kalu and showered the winger with praises.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, he said: “….Kalu is having a good integration in our kind of football which is based on quick moves and one, two play. The integration of Kalu was happiness for the team.

“I saw him play in Bordeaux, even in the training sessions and I saw that this player could replace Victor Moses. He did it very well already. He did it also in Seychelles and in the second game (against Libya), I think he was a bit tired because there were only three days between the two games – it’s a small time for travelling but he did it again against a very strong team of Libya.

“It was easy for him but we were already leading so we had to change him. He scored against Libya and it was a wonderful goal which gave him confidence.”

Nigeria will play their next AFCON qualifier against South Africa in November and currently leads Group E with nine points.
