Kepa: I’m fine, strong and confident; I’m not Mendy’s back-up

Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, insists he’s “fine” about his situation.

Kepa has lost his place at Chelsea to new arrival Edouard Mendy, but remains part of the Spain squad this week.

He said, “I feel fine. I am strong and confident. It may not be the desired situation. Sometimes we have to live moments like this. I have confidence to turn it around and to improve.”

On now being Mendy’s backup, Kepa insists: “I don’t have that feeling. In the end we three goalkeepers are here and the level is very high. I feel the confidence of the coach. It is he who chooses the best eleven. When it comes to playing or not playing, you have to try to impress as much as possible.

“In life there are ups and downs and maybe it is not the same situation, but what I can do and what is in my hands is work. I trust the level I have. You have to be calm and trust yourself. I have three games here and if I have the opportunity to play I will try to take advantage of it.

“Each coach communicates in a way. I cannot enter to value what each one says. I feel the confidence of the club and the national team. I focus on that.”
