Laporta: Messi staying will help Barca’s financial rebuild

Barcelona presidential candidate, Joan Laporta, has said keeping Leo Messi should be part of the club’s financial rebuild.

One way of boosting the club’s financial position can, according to Laporta, come from Messi, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

“Messi is a way of generating income,” Laporta said.

As part of a YouTube chat, Laporta also engaged with the voting block of Barcelona members.

“We’re focused on having the most signatures possible and explaining our project, respecting all the candidates,” he continued. “We have a winning mentality but we’re focused on getting people to vote for us.

“I don’t want Barcelona to become a PLC. It has to stay in the hands of its members.”
