Lars Stindl named Bundesliga player of the month of December

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Lars Stindl has been named the Bundesliga’s Player of the Month for December 2020.

Robert Lewandowski, Nadiem Amiri, Vincenzo Grifo, Florian Wirtz and Thomas Müller were the other candidates.

The official “Player of the Month” award has been created by DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga in cooperation with the Bundesliga’s official licence partner EA SPORTS.

The Bundesliga’s 18 club captains, a panel of experts and fans cast their votes, with the winning player receiving an upgraded player card in FIFA 21.

Lars Stindl is one of those who improve with age, if the 32-year-old’s performances this season are anything to go by. “He’s a leader,” said his Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Marco Rose.

“He’s an important figure in the dressing room, but not only there; he’s a true captain.” Not only Stindl’s leadership qualities stood out in December, though, with his four goals seeing him end the month second only to Robert Lewandowski (5) in delivering that particular commodity – and being runner-up to the best striker in the world is nothing to be ashamed of.

Overall, Stindl had a hand in five goals in the final month of the year, and that included his first career hat-trick when he scored all his team’s goals in a 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 12, as well as netting his side’s only goal against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Matchday 13. Gladbach’s captain has thus accounted for his side’s last four goals in the Bundesliga.
