Lazio rubbishes Milinkovic-Savic exit talks

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has quashed rumours that star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is set to leave the club this summer.

The Serbian international has been heavily linked with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in recent seasons with Lotito claiming to have rejected a mammoth bid for the midfielder in the past.

“Milinkovic is not for sale,” Lotito told Rai Sport. “I turned down a €140million (£120m) bid for him.”

The 27-year-old signed for Lazio from Belgian side Genk in 2015 and has seen his stock rise following a string of fine performances for the Biancocelesti.

He has enjoyed a fruitful season at the Stadio Olimpico registering 10 goals and 11 assists in 35 games as Lazio continue their push for Europa League qualification

But Lotito hinted that he wouldn’t stand in his way if an interesting offer was presented for the towering midfielder.

“I’d ask Sergej what he wants to do in case we receive an important proposal from a world-class club,” he added.

Manchester United have long been linked with a move for Milinkovic-Savic and, with midfield reinforcements needed at Old Trafford this summer, the Lazio man could fit the bill in Erik ten Hag’s rebuilding process.

Nemanja Matic has confirmed his exit at the end of the season whilst Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba look set to leave on  free transfers.
