Leeds midfielder Phillips trying to develop leadership qualities

Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, wants to develop as a leader.

Phillips has revealed he is trying to improve his leadership qualities by learning from Harry Kane.

The Whites homegrown talent was once again named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for their triple-header of matches over the international fortnight.

Phillips started in midfield alongside James Ward-Prowse as England beat San Marino 5-0 on Thursday, thanks to a debut goal from Ollie Watkins and a brace from Dominic Calvert Lewin.

That appearance was Phillips’ fifth cap for his country, a reward for his fine Leeds form.

“I’ve learnt from everyone really,” Phillips told Match of the Day X.

“You see players like Rashford and Jesse Lingard, even Harry Kane.

“He’s a great leader and I don’t think it’s something I’m too good at it at the minute but, hopefully, it’s something I will hopefully get better at when I’ve had a few more matches under my belt.”
