Lille vs Nimes (2pm) Osimhen targets 7th goal
Super Eagles’ forward, Victor Osimhen will be chasing his 7th Ligue 1 goal of the season when his club, Lille welcomes Nîmes to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy today.
The former Golden Eaglets’ striker netted his sixth league goal and grabbed an assist for his French side in the 2-0 win over Strasbourg at home on September 25 but fired blank in the next match away to Nice three days later which ended 1-1.
The 20-year-old who has become a goal-scoring machine for Lille this season, netting on each of his last four league home games.
Osimhen was also on target in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night and will now hope to improve on his 6 league strikes this season as he continues his impressive start to life in the French Ligue 1.
The match will, however, be a psychological boost for the hosts with head coach Christophe Galtier yet to taste defeat against Nimes coach Bernard Blaquart, having won the last two meetings which included a 5-0 thrashing in April this year.
No player has been involved in more goals than the Eagles’ striker in the French Ligue 1 this season.
It is expected that Osimhen will also be leading Nigeria’s attack when they face five-time world champions Brazil in a friendly next Sunday in Singapore.
