Liverpool captain facing 12 weeks out with groin injury

Liverpool’s injury-ravaged season has taken another massive blow as captain Jordan Henderson is set to face 12 weeks out on the sidelines with a groin injury.

The 30-year-old midfielder will discover today if his groin requires surgery and if it does, his season will be over.

In fact, reports suggest if Henderson needs surgery, he could be a ‘major doubt’ for this summer’s European Championships with England, according to The Daily Mail.

It certainly feels like Liverpool are cursed when it comes to injuries this season.

In the club’s Premier League clash against Everton on Saturday afternoon, the experienced Henderson was brought off in the 29th minute after pulling up with groin issues.

The England international managed to sprint past Abdoulaye Doucouré but moments later, he fell to the ground in pain as a concerned Jurgen Klopp looked on.

Henderson’s injury is just one of many when it comes to Liverpool’s centre-backs. He will join Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Fabinho on the sidelines.

In fact, the Premier League champions have now had 18 different centre-back pairings in all competitions this season.

Nat Phillips, who has made just six appearances for the club this season, replaced Henderson and joined new loan signing Ozan Kabak at the back, but the absence of their captain was clear.
