Liverpool set to sign French midfielder Manu Kone

Liverpool have discussed the potential signing of Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are exploring a number of midfield options as they look to strengthen an area of the pitch that had been a weak point for them in the recent campaign.

Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister, Chelsea star Mason Mount and Nice’s Khephren Thuram are among those who have been linked with a move to Anfield.

But now the Reds are in talks to sign Kone from the Bundesliga side.

The 22-year-old joined Mönchengladbach in January 2021 and has since made 60 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

German release BILD meanwhile also reported that Liverpool had been in contact with Kone representatives to express their interest.

The German side are said to want somewhere in the region of £35-40m for the France Under-21 international.

Kone is under contract until 2025 and the German club have the option of extending his contract for another year.

BILD claim Monchengladbach want to use any fee they receive for Kone to help fund new player moves in the summer window – as they look to build on a 10th-place finish.
