Lookman destroys Boniface Leverkusen

An Ademola Lookman hat-trick ended Bayer Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten run to win Atalanta the Europa League title.

The former Premier League winger stepped up on the European stage to lead the Italian side to their first trophy in 61 years.

His goals brought success to his team and also a brutal end to the Bundesliga champions’ record-breaking streak without a defeat this season.

Xabi Alonso’s side were unable to claim an invincible double and their hopes of a treble have been squandered ahead of the German Cup final this weekend.

Lookman opened the scoring with a confident finish at the back post early on before doubling the lead with a great strike following a nutmeg on Granit Xhaka.

Atalanta had the better of Leverkusen all night and sealed a deserved win with Lookman’s third, as he fired superbly into the top corner.

The Italians hadn’t touched silverware in over half a century and Leverkusen hadn’t lost since 2023, however, both streaks were ended tonight.
