Mahrez wins Man of The Match Award after stoppage time free kick

Riyad Mahrez’s stunning free kick against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi final clash at the Cairo International Stadium has fetched him the Man of the Match Award.

The match was heading for extra time until Mahrez fired an unstoppable free-kick from the edge of the box that Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi had no answer to.

Victory for the Foxes means they will be playing in their second final since 1990.

The Manchester City winger was also on hand for Algeria’s opening goal with six minutes to end the first half.  His cross from the right flank which dislodged left back, Jamilu Collins was turned in by Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong.

It was his 52nd cap for Algeria and his second award of the competition.

Meanwhile City manager, Pep Guardiola has congratuled the Algeria international for the victory which would see them face Senegal in the final next Friday.
