Maja in trouble, faces lengthy spell on sidelines

West Bromwich Albion’s striker, Josh Maja, is set to be sidelined for an extended period, likely around eight weeks, due to an ankle ligament injury.

The injury occurred during the latter stages of their recent match against Bristol City, which ended in a goalless draw.

Earlier, West Brom’s head coach, Carlos Corberan, mentioned that the team would assess the 24-year-old’s injury in the coming days, in what looked to be an ankle injury for the one-capped Nigerian international.

With Maja’s absence, Corberan, is left with limited options for the center-forward role. Brandon Thomas-Asante is currently the only fit choice, while Daryl Dike remains unavailable due to injury.

The club confirmed that Maja will undergo a period of rest and rehabilitation, with expectations of a return to first-team action following the international break in November. Unfortunately, this means he will miss at least ten games during this period.

The upcoming fixtures include home matches against Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth, QPR, and Hull, along with away fixtures against Watford, Preston, Birmingham, Coventry, and Southampton.

Despite Maja’s absence being a setback for West Brom, the striker will have to work hard to regain his place in the starting lineup upon his return. In the current season, he has made five substitute appearances without finding the back of the net.

Maja joined West Brom during the summer transfer window, making his return to English football after his contract with French club Bordeaux expired.

He signed a three-year contract with the Baggies, securing his future at The Hawthorns until the end of the 2025/26 season.

West Brom is currently positioned 13th in the Championship table, having accumulated eight points from their first six games of the season.
