Man City keeping tabs on Barca’s De Jong

According to ‘The Sun’, Manchester City want to bid £90 million for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to replace Ilkay Gundogan after failing to sign Declan Rice

Manchester City are still looking for a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, who has joined Barcelona. The Sky Blues tried to sign Declan Rice but Arsenal overtook them in the race.

As a result, Pep Guardiola is considering several midfielders to strengthen his squad next season but he already has a favourite. According to ‘The Sun’, the English side are keeping an eye on Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman has been Manchester United’s top target since Erik ten Hag took charge but has always been untransferable for the Catalan giants. The Dutch boss wanted the 26-year-old to be his first signing but the midfielder decided to stay in Spain.

The same media outlet reports that Guardiola already tried to sign De Jong in 2019 and is still a big fan. Manchester City will try to tempt the Netherlands international with an offer of £90 million, which West Ham rejected for Declan Rice, to play at the Etihad Stadium next campaign.
