Man Utd celebrate Shola Shoretire’s progress

Manchester United Under-18 coach, Neil Ryan, is impressed with the progress made so far  by Nigeria-born, player, Shola Shoretire.

Shoretire made his Uefa Youth League bow at the age of 14 years and 314 days last season. He scored in United’s FA Youth Cup win against Wigan Athletic last week.

Ryan told the Manchester Evening News: “When you see the professionalism of the likes of Marcus Rashford, he’s the shining example. Scott McTominay, so on. These boys are products of the academy and the staff who work with them. They are our examples.

“Good players can enjoy the big stage. [Shoretire] is a really exciting player. He’s evolving and developing, can play a number of different positions, he showed a great maturity I thought.”

When Man U called Shoretire to their under-19 team, fans were seriously hoping he would soon get a chance to appear in a game. This wouldn’t have been a far cry, as over the past two years, he has proved his mettle in the club’s youth ranks, prompting officials to include him in the under-18 and under-23 pre-season training camp in Austria.

Although Shoretire currently trains with England at youth level, he’s also eligible to play for Nigeria and we hope the Nigeria Football Federation has taken note of him because, no doubt, he’s a huge star in the making.
