Man Utd yet to agree on new Ighalo deal

Manchester United have failed to agree on a loan extension for striker Odion Ighalo.

The agreement with his parent club Shanghai Shenhua officially expired on Sunday night.

And SunSport understands that a deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford has not yet been agreed.

United had doubts over the cost to keep the 30-year-old striker beyond the current terms.

Ighalo swapped the Chinese Super League for the Premier League in a shock deadline day loan deal back in January.

The former Watford man had scored four goals in eight games since returning to English football.

The Nigerian made a personal plea to Shanghai Shenhua to let him finish the season at Old Trafford, before returning to China.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it clear he wants Ighalo to stick around until the end of the delayed season but that now seems as if it will not happen.

Ighalo looked relaxed as he arrived at Carrington training on Friday as he tries to get back to match fitness after lockdown.

Shanghai were said to be open to allowing the 30-year-old to extend his stay at the club he supported as a boy – if he puts pen to paper on a two-year contract extension with them first.

He is currently tied down at Hongkou Stadium until December 2022.

Ighalo has been offered a £400,000-a-week deal to stay in the Chinese Super League.
