Manchester United to go tough on unruly fans

Manchester United have sent an email to some of their supporters after being informed that a Wolves player was verbally abused at Old Trafford due to his height, according to reports.

The incident took place during the Red Devils’ 1-0 loss against Wolves earlier this month, when Joao Moutinho netted a late winner for the visitors.

It is understood that the complaint was filed after the game, meaning that specific individuals were not identified at the time.

As a result, United issued their response via email to fans who were believed to be seated in the area that the abuse allegedly came from.

As reported by The Athletic, the email read: ‘Thank you for your attendance at the Premier League fixture between Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers on 3rd January 2022.

‘The club have been made aware that a section of the crowd at this fixture used discriminatory language that was directed towards a Wolverhampton Wanderers player in relation to his height.

‘Manchester United is fully committed to ensuring that any form of discriminatory abuse and/or offensive behaviour is eliminated and appropriate action may be taken against any individuals that are identified as participating in discriminatory and/or offensive chanting or behaviour.

‘In the event that you should witness this type of prohibited discriminatory or offensive behaviour please ensure you report this via manutd.com/seered.’

Ralf Rangnick’s side have struggled on the pitch in recent weeks as the interim boss has watched his team drop points in two of their last three league fixtures.

It now seems that all is not well in the stands either, although United’s hierarchy have acted quickly to try to ensure that there are no further issues moving forward.

The 13-time Premier League champions face back-to-back away matches over the next four days when they take on Aston Villa and Brentford, before they return to play in front of their home fans next Saturday against West Ham.
