Mayweather announces desire to become the best trainer in the world

Boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, has announced he wants to become the best trainer in the world after posting a video of him putting his 14-year-old nephew through his paces in a pad work session.

The American is considered one Boxing’s greatest ever boxers after winning 15 major world titles and finishing his career undefeated in 50 fights, and revealed his desire to follow in his late uncle Roger’s footsteps in becoming a trainer.

The 43-year-old has not fought professionally since 2017 and has now revealed his desire to make a career change and move to the other side of the pads.

Mayweather revealed the decision on his Instagram alongside a video of him putting his nephew through a gruelling session in his first boxing session.

‘This is my first day working with my 14yr old nephew @slugboi.chris who has absolutely NO boxing experience at all, and this is my second time doing mitt work,’ Mayweather wrote on his Instagram.

Mayweather’s uncle and long-term trainer Roger passed away last month, who himself became a successful trainer after a boxing career of his own.

‘As many of you know, I’ve had incredible trainers which included my dad and uncle. Due to the recent passing of my Uncle Roger, I’ve felt inspired to help those around me the same way they have been there for me throughout my boxing career’, Mayweather added.

‘In a time where we must distance ourselves from others, it has allowed me to reflect on how I want to make a difference in people lives and help them achieve their goals.

Mayweather also recently signed a deal to return to the boxing ring in digital form where he will go up against other boxing greats in digital fights.

‘A true trainer wants the best out of their fighter and pushes them to the best of their abilities. I am new to helping people train as I’ve always been on the other side of the mitts.

‘It has become a goal of mine to help others reach the best versions of themselves and walk with it in confidence. I want to leave an impression on those around me and allow them to see their potential.

Mayweather, like most people across the world, has been forced into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic and said the time he has spent in isolation helped him make the decision to develop others’ skills.

‘This quarantine period has allowed me to see the importance of unity and helping others grow. I want to do my part on this Earth and allow people to see the potential in themselves so that they can share it with the world’, Mayweather added.

‘I am new at training and so far I’ve been working with people with no boxing experience, therefore we are growing together. But I promise you, I will be one of the best trainers in the world. Inspire and be inspired.

Mayweather previously teased in January about a second boxing fight against MMA star Connor McGregor, whom he last fought in 2017.
