Mbappe clashes with coach after substitution

Paris St-Germain star Kylian Mbappe reacted furiously after he was substituted by Thomas Tuchel during his side’s 5-0 demolition of Montpellier, in a fraught game which also saw Neymar lose his temper.

Tuchel attempted to explain his decision to bring on Mauro Icardi, but the World Cup winner didn’t want to hear about it.

The 21-year-old, who has netted 22 goals in 25 games this season, eventually stormed off to the bench after refusing to take his training jacket.

The PSG manager later said that while he understood his Mbappe’s frustration, the final word had to remain with the boss.

“I’m the coach, someone has to decide who goes out and who comes in. It’s me,” he told reporters after the final whistle.

“[Mbappe] is very intelligent, he knows what he is doing. He doesn’t like going out, nobody likes going out. These are not good images, but we are not the only club that has to deal with this sort of thing.

“It’s not good, because it opens up subjects that go against the team’s state of mind. Too bad. I am not angry, but I am sad because it is not necessary.

“I explained to him why we did this, and it will stay that way. I will always decide the technical aspects. We don’t play tennis, we play soccer and we have to respect everyone.”

“Kylian never wants to go out, it’s clear. He did not want to against Nantes and still today, very late since there was 3-1 for us, but I decided that and it’s forgotten now.” he said.

“We must admit that Choupo deserves respect, he deserved to play and that’s my decision. He accepts it and it is not much.”
