Mikel returns to action for Chinese club July 18

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has fixed July 18 for his return to action with Chinese Club Tianjin Teda which is when they face Shanghai Greenland away in the Chinese Super League.

The Eagles captain who has been described as a true leader back home after playing for Nigeria when hifather was kidnapped is yet to recover from a wrist injury sustained at the World Cup.

After returning from the FIFA World Cup, Mikel revealed that he was condemed to play for his country against Argentina in the Eagles last group match despite receiving the news of his father’s kidnap hours before the match.

“I was confused. I did not know what to do, but in the end I knew that I could not let 180 million Nigerians down.

“I had to shut it out of my head and go and represent my country first. I was told that they would shoot my dad instantly if I reported to the authorities or told anybody,” Mikel was quoted as saying.

The Chinese league took a break due to the World Cup.
