MLS side announce Stam’s appointment with wrong photo in tweet
MLS side FC Cincinnati have had a social media nightmare after they announced the appointment of Jaap Stam with a photo that isn’t him.
The 47-year-old Manchester United legend signed a two-year deal with Cincinnati, with an option to extend until the end of the 2022 season.
Stam’s new employers took to Twitter to welcome their new manager and captioned the tweet: “Join us in welcoming the new head coach of #FCCincy, Jaap Stam.”
The tweet included an image that Cincinnati believed to be the former Netherlands centre-back, only for it to be Ajax youth coach Tinus van Teunenbroek instead.
Unfortunately for the MLS club, the tweet shockingly stayed up for two hours before it was pulled from the Cincinnati Twitter account.
Fans quickly flocked to Twitter and poked fun at Cincinnati for making such a horrible error in the announcement post.

Stam has previously had managerial spells at Reading, PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord before signing for Cincinnati.
The former PSV Eindhoven and Lazio defender said that it is a “big challenge to do well” at Cincinnati, who play in the Eastern Conference of the MLS.
“For myself, to get the opportunity to work in America and to work in MLS for a club like FC Cincinnati, it’s a dream,” Stam said.
“I’ve always liked the country and I’ve always liked the mentality of the people in the States as well in what they’re trying to achieve.
“To get the opportunity to work for FC Cincinnati and this project by building the club — hopefully even further than where they already are, because I think they’ve already done a great job — but being a presence as a team, even more in MLS, getting results and working together with the fans and everybody already working within the club, for me it’s a big challenge to do well.”
According to Cincinnati, Stam will be introduced in an online video call with the media on Friday.
Stam’s new side lost both of their opening matches in the MLS season before the league was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Cincinnati CEO and majority owner Carl H Lindner III said that Stam is the “perfect candidate for FC Cincinnati’s next phase.”
