Money man Cristiano Ronaldo shows off black toenail

Shirtless Cristiano Ronaldo showed off his black painted toenails as he lounged on a superyacht during a sun-soaked getaway with his family on Monday.

The former Manchester United star, 38, showed off his impressively muscled physique  as he shared a snap to his 593 million followers on Instagram.

Captioning the post ‘vacation mode’, the star could be seen flashing his abs as he stretched out on a couch in black and gold swimming trunks.

Offering the camera a cheeky smile, Ronaldo flexed his chiseled stomach and sun-kissed tan.

But more eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot something unexpected about his toes, which were covered in black nail varnish.

The Portuguese superstar, now earning £175million-a-year in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr, is famously obsessive about his health and fitness routines. And it turns out, painting his toenails is no exception.

According to a source via German outlet Bild, athletes paint their nails or cover it with a protective layer to prevent their nails from fungi and bacteria.

They said: ‘Many top athletes do this to protect their nails from fungi and bacteria when they are stuck in sweaty shoes for hours. Even Mike Tyson.’

It’s not the first time that he has been pictured with his toe nails painted black.

Back in January, MMA fighter Francis Ngannou posted a picture with Ronaldo where they are seen embracing and the Portuguese star’s painted nails are visible. It had been remoured that Ronaldo and partner Rodriguez were thinking of parting ways which has been debunked in some quarters.

Despite not being legally married, as per TV Guia, arrangements have been put in place between the couple should they separate to ensure Rodriguez receives financial support.

The agreement is reported to hand ownership of the family’s home in Madrid – La Finca – to the Yo Soy Georgina starlet, and Rodriguez would also receive an eyewatering £85,900 (€100,000) monthly stipend for the rest of her life.

Ronaldo was named the world’s highest-paid athlete by Forbes at the beginning of May, with his annual earnings this year said to top £109m.
