Mourinho blames players for Manchester United defeat

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho insists his team “failed to react” to the intensity of Manchester United in the Premier League clash between the two sides.

Spurs failed to win for the first time since Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino last month, going down 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Marcus Rashford scored twice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men either side of a Dele Alli strike to move them up to sixth in the Premier League.

Tottenham dropp to eighth place, one point behind United and nine points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

As expected, former United boss Mourinho was well received by the home faithful, but his team did not start the game well.

Spurs were behind after just six minutes when Rashford fired home past Paulo Gazzaniga before Alli pounced to equalise against the run of play.

“We didn’t play well for 30 minutes, then I thought we did. We can’t decide a goal like the second goal,” he said.

“It was a throw-in, everyone was sleeping, they only reacted when Marcus Rashford got near the box.

“United were more aggressive in the first 30 minutes, more intense, so they deserve to win.

“I knew United at home would use the crowd, they’ve got a lot of young players and I knew they’d want to press and play with intensity, I told my players, but they couldn’t react.”
