Moyes worried he will be stuck with West Ham deadwood

David Moyes thinks he may have a problem this summer offloading the deadwood at West Ham, according to a report.

Injury concern – West Ham manager David Moyes

An exclusive in the Daily Star claims that Moyes thinks “his biggest problem in this summer’s transfer market won’t be signing players – but getting rid of them”.

The former Manchester United and Everton boss wants a smaller squad to work with next term in order for him to phase in the Hammers’ talented youngsters.

However, he is apparently well aware that offloading his fringe players could be hard, and the coronavirus pandemic will only exacerbate that.

Moyes is fearful that he could be left struggling to shift players he does not want at the club and that will only hinder him developing a British core to his side.

After the success of Jarrod Bowen’s £20million move from Hull, the Hammers are once again scouring the Championship for homegrown talent and they apparently want a “similar profile” in their summer recruits.

However, there will be an emphasis on preparing a pathway to the first team for the club’s youngsters and Grady Diangana, Ben Johnson and Xande Silva are all expected to train with the senior squad next season.

One man who they will not struggle to sell his Declan Rice, with Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly interested in him.

Moyes though wants to keep the England man for obvious reasons, and earlier this month Tony Cottee urged his former club to double Declan Rice’s wages if they hope to keep him.

Speaking to The Sun, Cottee admitted that West Ham will find it hard to convince Rice to stay if the opportunity of a move to Old Trafford presents itself.

“West Ham need to have a good cup run and be in the top ten. And the one other thing the club can do at this moment in time to protect Declan and to protect the club is to give him a new contract,” the pundit said.

“I don’t know the figures, I know he was on a crazy amount like £3k-a-week or something. And they probably gave him £30-40k-a-week which for me or for everyone who loves football is an unbelievable amount of money to have.

“But the point is if he was at Man Utd or Man City or Chelsea, he’d be on at least £100k-a-week so what the club can do is at least double his wages.”
