‘My injury not serious’, Onuachu tells Trabzonspor fans

Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu has allayed the fears of fans of his new Turkish club saying he was only substituted as a precaution during their 3-0 win over Besiktas on Sunday.

Onuachu was handed his first start by manager Nenad Bjelica and scored his first goal for the club but was taken off three minutes into the second half for Enis Destan, after he appeared to have picked up a knock.

Speaking after the game as per A Spor, the Nigerian was thrilled to return to scoring ways after a dry patch in England and assured the fans the injury wasn’t serious.

“I am proud to score a goal in my first match. Everyone fought hard. I think my injury is not very serious. I left the game to prevent it from getting worse.”

The Nigerian needed only 29 minutes to score his first goal for the club, opening the scoring for Trabzonspor after he nodded home Enis Bardhi’s cross.

It was his first league goal since January when he netted a brace for Genk in their 4-0 win over RFC Seraing in the Jupiler Pro League.

Two more goals from Anastasios Bakasetas and Edin Višća in the 41st and 61st minutes respectively completed the comprehensive win for the seven-time Süper Lig champions.

After completing a loan move to the Turkish side last week, Onuachu is hoping to revive his career after his transfer to the EPL last term from Genk, where he could not score in 12 appearances for Southampton, who got relegated to the Championship.

Bjelica will hope Onuachu will be available for selection against Hatayspor next Monday.

Trabzonspor are currently fourth in the Super Lig table with nine points from five matches.
