NAFA League begins in Lagos today

 

Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA) have announced that the maiden edition of the Nigerian Secondary School FLAG Football League will begin today at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, SportingLife can report.

This was disclosed during a press conference in Lagos by the federation president, Babajide Akeredolu. 900 athletes both male and female from 20 secondary schools in Lagos are expected to participate.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “The federation is set to take the sport to a higher level in Nigeria because we remain the giant of Africa. We have excelled in the sport through Nigerians in the diaspora and we are determined to have a strong league at home.

“We would ensure that there will be inter-state competitions. Also, we would set up a professional league in different categories and start the national team in 2023 so that Nigeria can be represented at intercontinental level.”

The President went on to acknowledge the support of the Lagos state sport commission for making it a reality to have the league start in Lagos state.

Reacting to this, the chairman sports commission of Lagos State represented by Oluyomi Oluwasanmi stated: “NAFA has done well to ensure that students in schools are well engaged to stay in school and stay in sport at the same time. This is in line with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Sanwo Olu and the state will continue to give support to the association.”

Also in attendance was the Secretary General  Lawrence Ojaideh and Executive Director NAFA, Obatolu Seye.

The Opening ceremony holds today 10 am at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
