Napoli monitor players on international duties

Napoli are breathing a sigh of relief after reports Dries Mertens has not badly damaged his shoulder playing for Belgium.

The striker went off after falling awkwardly during last night’s 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.

There were concerns, especially as Victor Osimhen dislocated his shoulder on international duty for Nigeria in November and was out for several months.

However, the Corriere del Mezzogiorno newspaper claims Mertens has been in contact with Napoli staff.

He assured them that it was just a knock and there is no dislocation.

It remains to be seen if Mertens will remain with Belgium for their next game against Belarus on Tuesday evening, or return to his club early.
