Napoli torn between systems with Milan

Gennaro Gattuso must decide whether to revert back to 4-3-3 tactics against Milan due to a growing list of absentees.

The Partenopei have recently moved to a 4-2-3-1 formation in order to accommodate striker Victor Osimhen, supported by a trio of more creative figures.

However, as Osimhen is out after dislocating his shoulder during international duty with Nigeria, the only alternatives in that role are Dries Mertens and Andrea Petagna.

Considering Elseid Hysaj is also out with COVID-19 and Tiemoue Bakayoko is a major doubt with flu symptoms, there could be a reshuffle with a return to 4-3-3 instead.

That would also enable Napoli to ‘mirror’ Milan’s own tactics at the Stadio San Paolo.

Piotr Zielinski would most likely move up into the supporting trio in a 4-2-3-1, but remain in midfield for 4-3-3.

Diego Demme is ready to step in for Bakayoko, while Hirving Lozano is the favourite rather than Matteo Politano for the left side of the trident.

Napoli (probable): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Mario Rui; Fabian Ruiz, Demme; Lozano, Zielinski, Insigne; Mertens
