Ndidi better than N’Golo Kante, says James Maddison

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is better than Chelsea’s former Fox N’Golo Kante, says James Maddison.
Ndidi has arguably been the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League this season, having improved massively over the last two years.

As well as leading the season’s league charts for the most tackles and recoveries, he has also been responsible for turning Leicester into the PL’s best defensive outfit.

The Foxes have kept six clean sheets so far this campaign and have only conceded eight goals – four less than the next best Liverpool.

I think he’s the best in the Premier League at tackling and winning the ball back, bar none,” Maddison told Football Daily.

“I know [N’Golo] Kante is a brilliant player and there are players like that. But actually winning the ball back and taking the ball off the opposition, I don’t think there is anyone better than Wilfred.

“Sometimes you get a player like that and what he does doesn’t get on the back page of the papers, doesn’t get talked about on Match of the Day.

“He’s fantastic at what he does and he lets players like me and Youri Tielemans do our thing higher up the pitch because we know we’ve got that solidity behind us.”

When Kante left for Chelsea immediately after the title triumph, and let’s be honest here, none of us thought that Leicester will ever find someone with half his ability, let alone someone as good or better. Ndidi, however, has proved everyone wrong, even if it took him a bit of time.

Upon being given his first decent run in the side, especially under Craig Shakespeare, the signs were not encouraging.

His distribution needed a lot of work, as did his sense of responsibility, given how reckless he was. Credit where it’s due, Claude Puel played a huge role in the Nigerian’s development.
