The former Belgium U21 invitee came off the bench to replace Ahmed Musa in the 72nd minute for his international debut for the three-time African champions.
Though he trained with top stars representing Premier League and La Liga clubs, Dessers, top scorer in the Eredivisie last season, has stressed that he felt comfortable.
“The pep was already a bit off. It was a tough week for everyone, but I still tried to accelerate and bring something,” said Dessers was quoted as saying to Het Laatste Nieuws.
“I got one small chance, but I couldn’t put more than my foot against the ball.
“I did my thing, also in training. By the way, they were of a very high level, really. Training with basic players from Villarreal, Everton, Fulham, …: great fun.
“Did I not look out of place? You should ask the coach that, but I don’t think so. I scored my goals and had a good feeling.”
Proud and honoured to represent a big football nation like Nigeria.

Born to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother, Dessers came into the scene last season when he finished as joint top scorer in the 2019-2020 Dutch Eredivisie season with Heracles.
The 25-year-old attracted interest from Belgium and Netherlands, but Nigeria was able to convince him to join the Super Eagles.
