Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is the early frontrunner to replace Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea boss.
Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea on Wednesday morning following a poor start to the season that included Tuesday night’s dismal 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
A club statement read: ‘On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.
‘As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.
‘Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.
‘There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.’
As for who that new head coach will be, there are two early favourites for the role: Pochettino and Brighton manager Graham Potter.

Pochettino is currently out of a job, having been sacked by PSG at the end of last season following a disappointing campaign and is best known for his time at one of Chelsea’s biggest rivals Tottenham from 2014-2019.

While he failed to win silverware in North London, Spurs consistently challenged for the title and reached the Champions League final in 2019.
Potter meanwhile has been hailed for his exciting football and getting Brighton punching above their weight, with the Seagulls currently fourth in the table.
Other notable names on the shortlist include struggling Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane and Chelsea legend John Terry who is still waiting to take his first managerial job.
