NFF close to hiring a former Cameroon coach for Super Eagles

NFF close to hiring a former Cameroon coach for Super EaglesNegotiations were almost completed by the Nigeria Football Federation with former Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao over his appointment as the new coach of the Super Eagles.

NFF had held a series of discussions with the Portuguese strategist and there are possibilities of hiring him after the executive committee’s approval.

The NFF officials are in the market for a permanent replacement for Gernot Rohr who was sacked last November.
Austin Eguavoen was given the job on interim bases, but his hope of keeping the job suffered a big blow as the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

NFF top officials reportedly held a meeting on Friday morning and have decided on the Portuguese-born coach, but are set to convince the Sports Minister Sunday Dare.

Meanwhile, NFF leadership is expected to have another showdown meeting with the minister this week.

Conceicao last worked as the head of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. He guided them to a third place finish at the last African Cup of Nations and final place of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification round.

He was sacked in February and replaced with former Cameroon CB Rigobert Song.
