NFF in touch with a coach from Eastern Europe to replace Rohr

Nigeria Football Federation is working underground to replace Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles coach after he was rumoured to have been fired by contacting a top coach from Eastern Europe, according to former international Idah Peterside.

“They have contacted a coach from Eastern Europe to take over from Rohr,” he said on SuperSport TV programme Soccer Africa Thursday night after he spoke to the powers that be in Nigeria football.

“I know the coach, but they have not given me permission to announce the man.”

This disclosure comes at a time when former Eagles coach Jo Bonfrere has reportedly thrown in his hat to return to his former post.

Dutchman Bonfrere was first a popular assistant to the colourful and successful Clemens Westerhof before he eventually headed to the team and led them to win a historic Olympic soccer Gold in the USA in 1996.

The local media have also speculated a combination of coaches Emmanuel Amuneke and Salisu Yusuf to take over the reins of the Super Eagles.

An appointment has to be made in good time as preparations for the delayed 2021 AFCON, which will begin in Cameroon in January 2022, will have to begin in earnest.
