Nigeria defeats Uganda to win IHF International Challenge Trophy

Nigeria defeated Uganda 39-25 to be crowned Champion of the IHF international challenge trophy (continental championship) on Saturday in Conakry, Guinea.

The national Under 18 women team defeated every team to win the competition and qualify for the CAHB Africa Nations Cup in September.

The cadet girls team had defeated host Guinea 32-31 in the opening game before seeing off Cameroon 35-22 and then thrashing Zambia 38-12.

It wasn’t however easy for girls as they fought tooth and nail against Uganda in the first half to win 16-15 before closing the game in the second half as they defeated the East Africans 23-10 for a cumulative score of 39-25.

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Samuel Ocheho expressed joy at the feat of the team and has promised that the HFN would ensure that the team gets the best of preparation for the Nations Cup.
