Nigeria Masters begins preparation for Toronto 2020

Determined to put up a spirited performance at the forthcoming IAAF World Masters Athletics (WMA) to be held in Canada, the Nigeria Athletics Masters (NAM) has  announced a high-power committee to ensure a successful hosting of its first-ever Nigeria Masters Athletics Open Championship .

NAM under the leadership of Dr. (Mrs) Gloria Obajimi has announced a nine-member committee to be chaired by Mr. Samuel Onileku for the eagerly awaited championship with the mandate to put up a successful event as a dress rehearsal to the coming global championship in Toronto.

 NAM in a release signed by its secretary general Uruemu Adu noted inter alia:

“The 1st Nigeria Master Athletics Open Championship will be used as part of our preparation for the World Masters Athletics in Toronto Canada 2020.”

Master Athletics is mainly for retired but still active athletes between the ages of 35 and 100.

Other members of the committee saddled with the responsibility of organising the local championship include former Olympian Falilat Ogunkoya-Omotayo as vice chairman while Lawrence Adegbehingbe will serve as technical chairman.

There is also ACP Magaret Ekpe, Barrister Peter Imieh , Alex Udjoh, Uruemu Adu and Peters Olajide Femi who posted an impressive performance at the recently held 12th African Masters Athletics Championship in Tunisia and IAAF World Masters Athletics (WMA) Outdoor held in Poland.

“As we are moving closer to the World Masters Athletics Championship in Toronto, we urge the government through the Federal Ministry of Sports and the business communities as well as captains of industry to support our quest to bring honours to our fatherland,” noted Olajide Femi.
