Nigeria vs Mozambique: Eagles eye First Friendly win in 5years

Fresh from their 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia on Friday in Portugal, Super Eagles will file out today gainst Mozambique with a desire to record first friendly victory in five years.  The Nigerian side have been playing friendlies which have either ended in a draw or on a losing note.The encounter is billed for the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira, Portugal.

The three-time African champions have endured a barren run in friendly outings for half a decade.

Jose Peseiro’s side recorded seven losses and eight draws in that period.

The Super Eagles came close to ending the streak in their last friendly against the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia on Friday but Mohamed Kanno’s late free-kick denied them victory.Mozambique were held to a 1-1 draw by Angola in their last friendly. Interestingly Nigeria have an impressive record against the Mambas.

The West Africans have yet to lose to Mozambique in four meetings three wins and a draw. The highest win was in the Nations Championship in 2014 that ended 4-2 in favour of Eagles followed by 3-0 win in AFCON tie in 2010. In the four games ten goals were scored eight by Eagles and two by the  Mambas.

A win in this game will boost the Super Eagles confidence going into next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Crocodiles of Lesotho and Warriors of Zimbabwe.

They will host Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on November 13, and then travel away to Zimbabwe three days later.
