Nigerian Armed Forces ready for Half Marathon Championship

The Armed Forces of Nigeria are ready for the 4th edition of the Chief of Defence Staff and other security agencies Half Marathon Championship, scheduled to hold on the December 9th, 2023.

The Chairman of the Committee, Air vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis disclosed this while briefing Journalists in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. The Chairman noted that the Half Marathon well known in history as they had witnessed the first, second, third and now the fourth edition.

Air vice Marshal Marquis said that the objective of the Half Marathon is “to create an avenue for the members of Armed Forces and other security agencies and their personnel to engage in competitive sporting activities to improve their skills, discover new talents and interact with one another.

“Also, to sustain the working relationship built over the years among themselves. This championship will feature two events, 25.1 kilometer for both male and female marathoners and 5 kilometer for veterans’ road uses.

The Chairman added that there will be individual and group competition going on at the same time.

“There will be expecting about 250 male and females from the Armed Forces and other security agencies,” the Chairman added. “And about 70 veterans male and female 65 years from above from Armed Forces and other security agencies are expected to be featured in veterans’ category.”

“We place a premium on the physical fitness of the Marathoners and the medical certificate is sacrosanct for this competition. So all Marathoners are duly informed that all intended competitors must present the certificate of medical fitness latest by tomorrow.”

Air vice Marshal Marquis noted that the completion of the road mapping will be done by the 7th of December.

According to him, cash prizes as well as new cars will be given to the group competitors and also individual competitors.

He encouraged everyone to participate fairly and said no cheating will be condoned. The chairman warned that anyone thinking of taking banned substances to compete will be dealt with as he urged all to come clean.
