NPFL: Enyimba’s Finidi thrilled by Bendel Insurance win

Enyimba’s boss Finidi George has expressed excitement over People’s Elephants 2-1 win against Bendel Insurance in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) game in Aba on Wednesday.

Forward Joseph Atule put the reigning NPFL champions ahead in the 71st minute before Insurance drew level through Ishmael Seriki four minutes later, but Enyimba had the last laugh following an own goal by Sunday Anyanwu in the 81st minute.

The win propelled the People’s Elephant to 8th on the standings, with 13 points from 8 matches, still with a game in hand.

Speaking after the match, the former Real Betis and Ajax winger also praised the overall performance of his players.

“It was a game we dominated, created chances, but we couldn’t score in the first half,” the ex-Super Eagles star said after the match. “But I think in the second half we had clear cut chances to have scored even before the goals started coming in.

“It was a good display from the players. We are all happy.

“We have to continue like this. They (the players) have to just keep believing in themselves and hopefully, we’ll get the job done. It’s not going to be easy.

“I’m quite happy for this victory.”

Enyimba will next face struggling Heartland in Owerri on Saturday in an Oriental Derby clash.
