NPFL: Maikaba, Olusesi confident of Rangers good start

Technical adviser of Rangers International F.C, coach Abdul Maikaba is confident his wards will have a very good start in the 2021/2022 NPFL season that kicked off on Friday in Lagos as the seven-time Nigeria league champions trade tackles with Katsina United in a matchday 1 fixture slated for Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.

After watching his players at the mandatory feeling of the pitch, Saturday, the vastly traveled and experienced gaffer said that the enthusiasm and determination displayed by the players give him confidence going into the first league encounter of the season.

“With the kind of determination and passion shown this evening in training, I believe that if it is replicated on match day, we shall leave Katsina smiling. No doubt, the weather here is tough but with what we did back in Enugu, it won’t be much of a challenge but the dust will to an extent challenge us,” said Maikaba.

In the same vein, captain of the ‘Flying Antelopes’, Tope Olusesi echoed the thoughts of his coach as he said, “We did not come to Katsina to count the number of trees on the road or how beautiful their structures are but to challenge for the three points at stake. It is our first league match and we want to start very well. The cold weather here will be an advantage as it is very good to help us bring out the best in us.”

Coach Maikaba will be banking on the squad that he came to Katsina with that has eleven old members of the team and seven new additions to achieve his target in Katsina.
