NPFL: Rangers are in Ikenne to consolidate team’s position

Coach Abdul Maikaba, technical adviser to Rangers International F.C has sounded it clear that he and his wards are in Ikenne, Ogun state, to consolidate his team’s position on the log as they trade tackles with ‘The Sky Blues’ Remo Stars F.C complete with former Rangers gaffer, coach Olugbenga Ogunbote in a matchday 28, NPFL 2021/2022 fixture.

The vastly traveled tactician stated that the destiny of the ‘Flying Antelopes’ was in their hands as they face Remo Stars that have been inter-changing the 3rd and 4th spots with his team and only a good outing in Ikenne will help consolidate his team’ chase of the leading two clubs on the log.

“We have prepared for the Remo Stars match like any other game but what is special about the match is that we are contending for a position with them on the log. The destiny of taking a deserved leap over them is in our own hands. We have to leave Ikenne with a very good result and I believe that with what I saw from the players in training, we shall have a good result in Ikenne and consolidate on achieving our set target for the season.”

Going down memory lane, Rangers International have not lost to Remo Stars in the five times they have met on a competitive level with three matches ending in a draw while winning two with the 5-2 bashing of March 24, 2019, in an NPFL Group A, matchday 12 handed ‘The Sky Blues’ in Enugu where Godwin Aguda grabbed a brace still fresh in our memory while not forgetting the 2-1 win achieved in Sagamu by the ‘Flying Antelopes’ on 28/8/17.

When both sides clashed earlier in the season in Nnewi, it was a goalless affair but on current form, Rangers boast of two wins, two draws, and a loss in its last five matches scoring seven goals and conceding three goals while their host, Remo Stars boast of two wins, a draw and two losses finding the back of the net six times and conceding five times over five games.

With only two points separating both clubs on the log as Rangers occupy the third spot with 45 points from 27 matches while Remo Stars are a spot below them with 43 points from the same number of matches, expectations will be high from both benches as the technical and tactical acumen of both well-traveled managers is put to test at the lush-green Remo Stars stadium, Ikenne, Ogun state on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
