Odisha sacks Stuart Baxter over rape comment

 

Former Bafana Bafana Coach Stuart Baxter has been sent packing from his current Indian club Odisha FC following what was considered his appalling rape comment during a post-match interview.

Odisha were beaten 1-0 by Jamshedpur FC on Monday with former Preston and Stockport midfielder Baxter disappointed with some of the decisions made by the referee.

And he hit out while on a live TV interview on Star Sports, India’s largest sports broadcaster.

“You need decisions to go your way and they didn’t,” Baxter,he said .

“I don’t know when we’re going to get a penalty. I think one of my players would have to rape someone or get raped himself if he was going to get a penalty.”

And, having initially tweeted that Baxter’s comments were “completely unacceptable”, Odisha FC have now sacked the 67-year-old.

Baxter is leaving the club after handling just ten games of wnich he won just one after being appointed in June.

“Odisha FC has decided to terminate head coach, Stuart Baxter’s contract with immediate effect,” a tweet said.

“The interim coach for the remainder of the season will be announced soon.”said the club

Odisha are bottom of the Indian Super League table, five points behind tenth-placed East Bengal.

Baxter had previously managed England Under-19s before two spells in charge of the South Africa national team.

He also spent two years in charge of the Finland national team, having played as a midfielder for the likes of Preston, Morecambe and Dundee United
