Oliseh returns to coaching takes over SV Straelen

 

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has returned to coaching after what looked like sabbatical after his romance with Netherlands side Fortuna Sittard. This time the former Nigeria international has pitched tent with German side Regionalliga West club, SV Straelen. Oliseh we understand is to handle the fourth tier club side for one-year in the first instance.

The club announced the deal with Oliseh saying

“Yes, Sunday Oliseh will be our new coach. A good 14 days ago we had delicious asparagus at the Straelener Hof,” president of the club Hermann Tecklenburg was quoted by waz.de.

“That was a good conversation. In the last 24 hours we were also able to discuss an employment contract until June 30, 2023. On Wednesday 21 June, Sunday will lead the first practice session. We look forward to working together.”

Oliseh who made 54 appearances for Nigeria was part of the 1994 Nations cup winners and Olympic Gold medal winners of Atlanta 96. He made 321 club appearances with 18 goals to his credit. Top clubs in played for include Juventus and Borrusia Dortmund.

Oliseh who led Eagles to 2016 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Rwanda failed to go beyond the group stage and clashed with the Football federation leading to his resignation. The team had opened with a 4-1 defeat of Niger followed by a 1-1 draw against Tunisia before losing by a lone goal to Guinea.
