Onana begins Man United project on a losing note

Cameroon international and Manchester United new buy Andre Onana made his noncompetitive debut for the club early Thursday in a preseason friendly on a losing note.

Onana who recently joined the Old Trafford landlords for  £47.1 million conceded two goals at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas in front of  67,801 crowd as Real Madrid emerged victorious at the occassion.

English midfielder Jude Bellingham scored the opener as early as the 6th minute. The 20-year-old England midfielder who cost Madrid £88 million produced a lob to beat Onana even before the two teams could settle into the game.

When the spectators thought Real Madrid would run away with a narrow 1-0 win, Joselu scored a late-minute goal in the 89th minute to seal the victory.

But Onana wasn’t at fault for either goal, and the Cameroonian’s sweeper-keeper style piqued United fans’ interest.

United’s manager Erik ten Hag wanted that kind of assurance with the ball at Andre Onana’s feet when he signed the former Ajax keeper from Inter Milan this summer after believing that David de Gea would never give him such a style of goalkeeping.

While the Cameroonian is expected to modify United’s playing style, he also showed that he is a quality goalie during the friendly game against Real Madrid as he made superb saves against Vinicius Junior and Joselu to make the game end with a respectable scoreline.
