Onazi Football Scouting Clinic ends as UBN hails event

The maiden Ogenyi Onazi Football Scouting Clinic has ended in Lagos with former Super Eagles star Onazi revealing plans are underway to take selected players abroad for trials. The talent hunt saw over 1,600 footballers jostle for 20 slots as soccer lovers, sponsors and scouts alike watched with keen interest.

Reacting to the program Onazi assured that the tourney will be staged annually with the support of interested sponsors.

“This is just the beginning of other great plan to come. I have always had the mindset of giving back to the society and I think this is the right time for it. I chose to be here all through the tourney so I can select them myself and I’m impressed and sure other scouts hanging around the vicinity are also satisfied with the level of talent we have spotted.  This four-day scouting clinic will serve as an eye opener to others who are yet to give back to the society.

“The selected 20 will also have the privilege of playing more tourney against top notch teams in the country before facing the real challenge outside the shore of Nigeria” he assured.

Sponsors Union Bank through their Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, Olufunmilola Aluko commended the program assuring that they will maintain relationship with Onazi who went extra-miles tabling an idea capable of inspiring grassroot footballers to stardom.

“I’m impressed with what I have seen so far. I knew from unset the idea will be a successful one for both players and the scouts, and we won’t relent showing interest in this anytime they come knocking on our door” she said

Onazi who made 52 appearances for the Super Eagles, thanked all the sponsors for making the clinic a huge success while challenging the players to remain focused

“I urge the players to keep their head cool and be open to leaning and I hope to see them play for bigger football club across the world”.
