Organisers of Nigeria Pitch Awards celebrate Osimhen on Serie A triumph

Matchmakers Consult President, Shina Phillips, whose outfit organises the yearly Nigeria Pitch Awards, has congratulated Victor Osimhen and Napoli for winning the Serie A title.

Napoli recently ended their long wait to win Serie A, joining late club icon Diego Maradona in the history books by being crowned Italian champions with a record-equaling five matches to play.

A 1-1 draw at Udinese gave Napoli the point they needed to end 33 years of waiting and spark wild celebrations among the thousands of fans in Udine, at the Stadio Maradona in Naples and all around southern Italy’s biggest city.

Osimhen scored the decisive goal was his 22nd goal in 28 league appearances which erased George Weah’s Serie A record for African players for the first time.

Shina Phillips said he was highly elated to the player they just honoured in Nigeria recently making a record achievement in Europe with his Italian club.

“Osimhen has given us something to be proud of as Nigerians. His remarkable record has further encouraged us to do more for Nigerian players who are making good impact with their clubs and country. Osimhen is a good example of dedicated and loyal player,” he said.

Napoli’s 16-point lead over second-placed Lazio leaves them with a month-long parade between now and the end of the season which will allow their long-suffering supporters to fully unload more than a generation of frustration.

Super Eagles and Italian Serie A top scorer, Osimhen and FC Barcelona Femeni’s top finisher, Asisat Oshoala, recently named the King and Queen of the Pitch respectively at the 9th Award Ceremony of the Nigeria Pitch Awards in Abuja.
